TAG Heuer's Solargraph Goes Racing

Ten years after partnering with Red Bull Racing, TAG Heuer marks the anniversary with a solar-powered Formula 1.

TAG Heuer's Solargraph Goes Racing

There is a certain logic to a solar-powered racing watch. The sport runs on light, after all. The flicker of a starting light, the glare off a visor, the endless daylight hours of a European race weekend. TAG Heuer has been the official timekeeper of Oracle Red Bull Racing since 2016, and to mark a decade of partnership, the brand has done something quietly clever: it has taken its Formula 1 Solargraph and dressed it in the team’s colours.

The result, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph x Oracle Red Bull Racing, is a 38mm steel watch with a sandblasted case and a dial in an intense blue. The minutes scale is red. The central seconds hand and the date window border are yellow. Those are the colours of the Red Bull logo, the bull charging in front of the sun against a field of blue, and they are rendered here without apology. A blue TH-Polylight bezel frames the dial, and the caseback is decorated with the Oracle Red Bull Racing logo and a chequered flag pattern.

The watch is not trying to be subtle. It is not meant to be. This is a piece designed for the generation of fans who see motorsport as part of their lifestyle rather than a Sunday afternoon ritual, and TAG Heuer CEO Béatrice Goasglas was explicit about that in her comments on the launch. "This special edition celebrates that journey while looking firmly ahead," she said. "With its 38mm case and Solargraph movement, it brings the energy of the grid to a new generation of watch enthusiasts, for whom racing is as much a culture as a sport. It is everything Designed to Win stands for."

Laurent Mekies, CEO and team principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, echoed the sentiment. "It's a piece that reflects the speed, accuracy and relentless pursuit of excellence that connect both our brands," he said.

Under the dial sits the Solargraph calibre TH50-00, TAG Heuer's light-powered movement. It uses a quartz regulator charged by solar cells beneath the translucent dial, drawing energy from both natural and artificial light. A single minute of exposure is enough to power a full day of running, and a full charge delivers up to ten months of reserve. The watch restarts after just ten seconds of light exposure, and it is water-resistant to 100 metres.

The Formula 1 collection itself has roots in the 1980s, when bold designs helped forge the now-synonymous ties between Swiss watchmaking and motorsport. This anniversary edition draws on that heritage while pushing it forward. The 38mm case is fitted with TAG Heuer's curving shoulders above 12 o'clock and below 6 o'clock, with the lugs hidden beneath them to give the watch a quasi-integrated bracelet appearance. The three-row steel bracelet completes the look.

It is a well-timed release. Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix yesterday, keeping his championship hopes alive heading into the final races of the season. The watch arrives at £1,900, the same price as previous racing editions on a steel bracelet, and it comes in a special edition display box. It is available now through TAG Heuer's website and boutiques.

Ten years is a long partnership in Formula 1, a sport where allegiances shift as quickly as the cars. TAG Heuer has been involved in motor racing for over five decades, with partnerships spanning Ferrari, McLaren and now Red Bull. The Solargraph edition is not just a celebration of that history. It is a statement about where the brand sees its future: solar-powered, racing-inspired, and aimed squarely at the next generation of fans.
