For more than thirty years, OMEGA and James Bond have shared a history. From Pierce Brosnan's GoldenEye in 1995 through the Daniel Craig era, the Seamaster has been a silent partner in the franchise, as reliable as the Aston Martin and considerably more discreet. The villains, until now, have gone without. That changes today, with a collection that, for the first time, asks you to pick a side.
OMEGA has released six Seamaster Diver 300M timepieces, three bearing the symbol of James Bond and three the symbol of Spectre. Built around the same case and driven by the same calibre, they share a common foundation while distinctive details give each its own identity. The collection is built around the idea of duality. Bond is defined by duty, discipline and loyalty. Spectre represents independence, self-interest and the freedom to operate without the same constraints. As OMEGA puts it, the qualities they represent are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Duty can exist alongside independence. Discipline alongside freedom. The question the brand leaves hanging is simple enough: which side will you choose?
All six measure 42mm and are powered by OMEGA’s automatic Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806. The two individually available steel models measure 14.23mm thick and 50mm lug-to-lug, offer water resistance to 300 metres and have a 55-hour power reserve.
Two stainless-steel editions are available individually. The James Bond edition (ref. 210.30.42.20.03.004) has a grade 5 titanium bezel ring and a blue aluminium dial, laser-engraved with a wave pattern. The Spectre edition (ref. 210.30.42.20.01.023) has a black ceramic bezel ring and a dial in a blackened grained finish. Both are presented on a brushed mesh bracelet.
Two limited-edition box sets sit alongside them, one dedicated to James Bond and the other to Spectre. Each is limited to 77 numbered examples. Every set contains a stainless-steel model on a brushed mesh bracelet and a platinum-gold model on a leather strap. Neither of the two watches contained within either numbered set is available separately. The stainless-steel model carries its individual limited-edition number on a plate at 9 o'clock. On all four watches the caseback is polished-brushed, follows OMEGA's wave-edged design and is secured by the Naiad Lock.
On the platinum-gold models the bezel ring is polished ceramic while the diving scale is executed in platinum. The dial is 18k white gold with a PVD gradient, blue with a gun-barrel pattern for James Bond (ref. 210.83.42.20.03.001) and dark grey with an octopus for Spectre (ref. 210.83.42.20.01.001). On both models, the emblem on the rotor is executed in 18K Moonshine Gold. Each watch carries its emblem on the rotor: a gun-barrel decoration on the James Bond models, the Spectre logo on the Spectre models.
Each limited-edition set is delivered in a single presentation box with an additional NATO strap and strap-changing tool, cufflinks, a cord bracelet, a loupe, a leather travel pouch and card holder, and a certificate of authenticity. In the James Bond set, the strap keepers are engraved with 007, and the travel pouch is blue. In the Spectre set, the strap keepers carry the Spectre emblem, the cufflinks and cord bracelet are in matching Spectre execution, and the travel pouch is black.
"We are extremely proud of this collection," says Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA. "OMEGA has been the watch of James Bond for more than thirty years, and this is the first time we have brought James Bond and Spectre together in a collection. Both belong to the same story, and our customers have always known both sides of it. Now they can wear both."
The collection is available from today at OMEGA boutiques and online.
